, they insisted the election return obama to the white house and the gop return to the house requires both parties to come together in a fairground. but we know that didn't happen. i think everybody is aware, right, that it is the gerrymandering that has returned -- what they are calling middle ground is not middle ground, right? >> it isn't middle ground and there wasn't a dead locked election. they forget a couple of things number 1 that there was an election, and the people spoke and number two if you look at every survey -- i guess the second point is in this campaign there was a clear, clear outline by the president of where he stood, no secret. there had to be a continuation of the middle class tax cut, and an end of the tax cut for the very wealthy in -- in 2010 they got over 90%, the upper 1% -- 90% over that of the income growth, and the third point, the surveys show after the election all of them -- that if you ask people should there be continuation of the middle class tax cuts? yes. should there be a continuation of the tax cuts for the very wealthy? no.

into the white house, not the way he wanted it. president obama is keeping a promise he made on election night by having a private lunch with romney on thursday. a few weeks ago, president obama said romney could actually bring something to the table. >> i do think he did a terrific job running the olympics. that skill set applies to the federal government. >> turns out, romney doesn't have an eye on helping the country. he is helping to move on into an office at his son, tag's private equity firm. it is unclear what role he will be playing. he spenlt the last seven years running to serve his country and now he is going back to the private sector. he is not out serving the public or helping the country move forward. this just underscores everything we thought about mitt romney. all he cares about is money. good for him. >>> romney campaign strategist, stuart stevens is complaining about the loss. he wrote that mitt romney carried the majority of every economic group except those with less than $50,000 a year in household income. that means he carried the majority of middle class voters. stuart

for the affluent may be unavoileable. obama did spend the last two years proselytizing for such a hike and voters were well aware of it when they re-elected him. but the white house has said that the rates don't have to return to clinton era levels. obama's nemesis as he often told us are millionaires and billionaires. so why not urge that the higher tax rates be applied only to those with incomes of $1 million and not the couples earning more than $250,000. now, i'm talking pure politics, not equity in this case. can they hang their hat on the fact, okay, you're against millionaires, we'll take back their cut for the millionaires? below that they have to get the deal. >> the problem with this is chuck schumer and other senate democrats tried to offer this to republicans last time. remember the last time we did this they rejected it. >> it works for them now. they can say all we want is the schumer deal. >> right now they don't have the leverage to get the schumer deal. they rejected the schumer deal. they don't have the leverage to get it. >> here we disagree. i think they may have a case. if th

's that we took in to meet with the white house economic team and i subsequently had a meeting with president obama. i came away from those meetings feeling that these guys really were serious about the debt. they were serious about reducing the deficit and the need to get on with it and had some sense of urgency. they were serious about raising revenue from higher income tax payers, and that includes raising rates, with some flexibility there. they were serious about reducing spending and i would say to you wall, you have written a lot about the tax side of the equation. we need to read more about the spending side of the equation. they are equally important if we are going to get a balanced plan. they're serious about reducing spending -- that would include reducing spending on health care entitlements. they're serious about protecting a class -- you can really feel the president's passion on that. they were serious about restoring confidence in the short and long term so our economy can grow and create jobs. i think the president has always been for a balanced approach come as alan and i h
